Be My Valentine: What to Buy and What Not to Buy

Valentines Day causes all kinds of worry for all kinds of people the World over.  What to buy?  What not to buy?  What kind of impression to give?  Will I make an idiot of myself?  Will I offend him/her?  Am I spending more than I should?

February 14th is traditionally the time for lovers everywhere to wake up and run to the mailbox.  Finding nothing there is certainly heartbreaking!  Make sure your loved one is not disappointed this year by putting the right thing in his or her mailbox!

The trail of inappropriate Valentines offerings over the years would probably reach around the World several times.

The worst thing a man could possible give is bright red satin underwear that does not fit.  Women rarely like squeezing into ill fitting clothing and she might feel obligated to try if it is a gift; don’t go there!  Perfume is great but a personal choice and the same goes for books, unless you are absolutely certain of his or her tastes in that direction.  Romantic tunes on a CD are nice but will eventually join the racks of other romantic tunes in the archives.

Chocolates send the right message but unfortunately they get eaten and disappear – you are left with the brightly coloured ribbon to remind you of how much you are loved, along with the three pounds extra weight on your hips.

So why not try buying a gift that means something lasting?  A gift that says the right things, such as ‘I love you – I am here for you – I will always be here even when everyone else has gone – I am thinking of you – I will always be your friend no matter what…’

A gift that may be kept forever is the best kind of present on Valentines Day.  A gift that need not cost a fortune might be a necklace made of natural stones; a sharing gift that can be split between two; a gift that may be kept in your wallet or purse or on your desk to remind you of the deep friendship that brought you this keepsake.

Take the time this Valentines Day to find that gift that says so much about your love and friendship.  There are so few special days in the year set aside for friendship, but Valentines is one of them.
